Studying English in Australia is not just about learning to speak the language. Actually, the options are huge! You can start with a General English course and finish with a doctoral degree. It is the most popular program for arriving students. You will learn and strengthen the four communication skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. There are numerous schools in Australia that offer General English and their methods are quite similar, with levels that go from beginner to advanced, studying at leats 20 hours per week. The classes are taught in a fun and interesting way so can get involved and engaged with your learning process. You can also choose between morning and evening classes.

This course develops and strengthens your skills to communicate in a business environment, like meetings and interviews. It provides an intensive language immersion and it’s generally taken along with General English, so you can continue learning general skills, but with a focus in business. It is an excellent option if you are planning to work in a corporate organisation.

  • Basic requirements: Intermediate level of English.
  • Investment: AU$165.00 – AU$330.00 per week*
  • Duration: 2 – 52 weeks depending on starting English level and desired achievements.
  • After completion you can take: IELTS/Cambridge Preparation, English for Academic Purposes, VET courses.
IELTS (International English Language Testing System) and Cambridge English (Cambridge English Language Assessment) are designed to assess the English abilities of people who need to study or work in a place where English is the language of communication. For example, when international students want to enrol in college or university in Australia, they need to take one of these tests as one of the requisites. They are also commonly used to meet the requirements for a specific English level to apply for a job position. The courses will prepare you for the test, giving you all the knowledge and developing all the skills you need to succeed. You will practice with real tests in simulated environments so you know exactly what to expect the day of your actual test.

  • Basic requirements: Cambridge preparation: upper-intermediate level of English. IELTS: intermediate level of English.

The English Course for Academic Purposes or EAP is the best option for you, if  you are planning to attend college or university in an English speaking environment. It helps you develop the academic language and research skills you need to be successful. You will study in an academic environment, where you will be required to deliver assessments and take tests. The schools that offer this program have partnerships with specific colleges and universities, giving you the opportunity to enrol in a diploma or degree without requiring the IELTS test.

  • Basic requirements: Intermediate or Upper-intermediate level of English
  • Investment: From AU$240.00 per week*
  • Duration: 10 – 12 weeks per level, two or three levels depending on the school and starting English level.
  • After completion you can take: VET courses, higher education courses.
The Vocational Educational Training courses (VET) are very popular with international students since they provide a more practical and specific approach to learning. Theses courses are similar to technical diplomas found in other countries. There are different qualification levels you can obtain after completion, from Certificate I to Advanced Diploma, which are offered in a large range of areas, with the most common being business, marketing, IT (information technology), management, tourism, hospitality and accounting, but there are dozens more. This is the kind of  course you need if you want to take your career to the next level.

  • Basic requirements: Upper-intermediate level of English, having completed year 12 (high school) or it’s equivalent.
  • Investment: From AU$1,350.00 per term (normally three months)*
  • Duration: 3 months – 2 years depending on the school and course.
  • After completion you can take: Higher education courses.
Higher education in Australia has an outstanding international reputation, with some of the best universities and programs in the world. There are 42 universities in the country (39 Australian, two international and one private specialty), offering education in a wide range of areas, like business and management, arts, engineering, information technology, science, humanities and health sciences among many others. The courses are classified in two main levels: undergraduate degree (bachelor) and post-graduate degree: master and doctoral. There are also additional options, like enrolling in a double Bachelor program (obtaining two Bachelor degrees after completion), or taking graduate diplomas or certificates.

In Australia, the Tertiary Education Quality Standards Agency (TEQSA) monitors the quality of all higher education courses, and makes sure every university meets the national standards. The Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS Act) protects the rights of all international students.

  • Basic requirements: Academic IELTS with a minimum score of 6.5 or higher depending on the course and university.
  • Investment: AU$10,000.00 – AU$16,000.00 per semester*
  • Duration: 6 – 24 months depending on the university and course.
  • After completion you can take: Master and Doctorate degree (after masters degree).

To apply you must have completed a Bachelor Degree or it’s equivalent (extra academic requirements might be needed depending on the country where you studied your previous education).

  • Basic requirements: Academic IELTS with a minimum score of 6.5 or higher depending on the course and university.
  • Investment: AU$10,000.00 – AU$15,000.00 per semester*
  • Duration: 6 – 24 months depending on the university and course.
  • After completion you can take: Doctorate degree.

To apply you must have completed a Masters Degree or it’s equivalent (extra academic requirements might be needed depending on the country where you studied your previous education).

  • Basic requirements: Academic IELTS with a minimum score of 6.5 or higher depending on the course and university.
  • Investment: AU$9,000.00 – AU$19,000.00 per semester*
  • Duration: 36 months on average.
